Task 5 - Results - when in Texas think BIG

When in Texas think BIG ‘cos everything is bigger in Texas.

A total of 60 pilots made goal with all 6 Brits in the top 30. What a great task.

The task board was wrong - Do you know how many miles 285.3km is?

It was a good classic day - we launched at about 1pm and took the 2pm start – I landed at 18.37.

We flew into a different time zone and a different state (New Mexico) and probably could have flown further because the day wasn’t over.

Gary and Carl flew together most of the way (I think). Bruce and Dave were together and Robin and I together for a while until we got split up and I joined Bruce and Dave towards the end of the flight.

Before my final glide I got a climb up to just short of 11,000 from a ‘cow fart’ thermal (there were 1,000’s of cows below in a stockade). I had one small turn on my final glide just to make sure I got in.

Everybody was very tired in goal but very happy to land in such a nice field after yesterday.

Chris Cheney our retrieve who is a local hang glider pilot was at goal waiting for us like an expectant mother. We did however have to remind him to bring the cool beer over to us! It was definitely a beer drinking day. Thanks Chris.

It was a late night back to the Motel getting back at about 1.30am. We were going to stop at ‘Hooters’ - a place where the girls don’t wear much but we changed our minds and went to another place (can’t remember the name of) where we were given a big bucket of peanuts – there was massive piles of shells on the floor all over the place.

The bar was about to close so 3 bottles of wine and 2 rounds of beer each were quickly ordered. A very expensive meal at $50 each but we needed it and felt as though we deserved it.

We arrived back to a party by the pool that was in full swing - apparently it went on until at least 3.30am.
