Day 4 - Task 4 - World Championships

Task 4 - 149.4 km to Denver (to the northwest)

94 pilots in goal including all 6 Brits – a better day for me coming in 3rd (4 minutes off Dave Seib who was first). I flew alone with Primoz for most of the flight arriving 1.09secs behind him!

The Brits are still winning the Team comp 10856 points:-
2nd - FRA 10644
3rd - DEU 10207
4th - AUT 10042
5th - AUS 10026

The Goal field was an area of nodding donkeys (the things that suck the oil out of the ground) with a barbed wire fence hidden in 3ft high scrub running down the side of the runway which was in between all the nodding donkeys. There were spikey ball things in the grass that were the sharpest of things and steel posts sticking up everywhere so inevitably there was lots of broken aluminium. Thankfully all the brits were fine. One French guy came very close to seriously hurting himself. He flew in and hit the barbed wire fence and bounced backwards off it. His head went between 2 strands luckily no damage was done
Meet Director, Davis says “I blow it and call a poor goal field. Yes, I really made a big mistake and called Denver City airport as the goal (actually I had wanted it as a turnpoint, but the task committee didn't want to go back to Hobbs from there). The Google Earth photo wasn't good enough to tell us what was really in the field. It turned out to be power lines, fences and stakes.”
